This session will focus on the preparer regulations being implemented by the Internal Revenue Service and ethics requirements of EAs and the non-credentialed. A non-member wishing to secure a member rate at IAAM seminars must first join as an Active member before registering. If you have any questions, please call IAAM at 517-641-7505.

4. The “Active Member Employee” rate is reserved for employees of IAAM Active Members only. The Active member or first registration from the Active member firm must register at the IAAM Member rate before the employee rate applies.

The Independent Accountants Association of Michigan is creating "member user groups" to focus energy on specific areas of federal, state, and local government, the problems our membership runs into within those bureaucracies, and the "CONNECTIONS" and "RESOLUTIONS" we can employ to facilitate better communication and resolution of the issues. These groups are:

Michigan 1040 Taxes . . . focusing on issues relating to Michigan 1040 preparation issues.

Michigan Business Taxes . . . focusing on all issues relating to the MBT.

Federal Administrative Issues . . . focusing on administrative issues and problems our members incur within federal tax and small business bureaucracies.

State and Local Administrative Issues . . . focusing on administrative issues and problems our members incur within state and local bureaucracies.

These groups will meet as necessary outside of tax season via IAAM's GoToMeeting internet meeting module, making participation as easy as ever. If you have a computer with an internet connection, you can participate!

This year, several tax bills are expected to assist America's lifeblood -- small businesses. This seminar will bring practitioners up to speed on all the tax incentives that will occur this year.

The course will cover the taxation, form of legal entity, capitalization, and other considerations necessary to advise small business clients. With the U.S. economy in deep recession and the eventual anemic economic growth that is expected to last for years, it's anticipated that more small businesses will fail at record numbers and new small business start-ups will accelerate at a record pace. The simple truth is that large U.S. companies are not hiring, and the outsourcing trend to foreign countries will continue. The growth driver in the U.S. for the past several years, the small business, will continue to need expert advice more now than ever.

Here's what the new one-day course will cover:

-- The right form of legal entity -- advantages and disadvantages of sole proprietorships, partnerships, LLCs, LLPs, subchapter s corporations, c corporations, maximizing asset protection using disregarded entities, and solving basis issues through the use of QSUBs and single-member LLCs.

-- Obtaining financing and equity investment capital -- Small Business Administration loans, bank loans, angel investor rules for small stock offerings, and restructuring bank debt.

-- Equipment -- lease vs. purchase.

-- Tax credits and depreciation-advantaged assets -- helping your clients and their customers understand tax credits.

-- Small business financial statements -- managing cash flow, understanding ratio analysis, budgeting and simple forecasting including cost-reduction analysis.

-- Employment considerations -- independent contractor vs. employee, and Section 530 relief.

The National State Boards of Accountancy has finalized sweeping changes in reporting standards effective January 1, 2011. Are you prepared and ready to conform?
